She completed both a residency in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care and a master’s degree at Auburn University in 2011. Dr. Bacek is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Dr. Bacek is currently the head of the AUCVM Emergency and Critical Care section and has mentored numerous residents and interns on the clinic floor and in the research lab. Under her direction, Auburn University received certification as a Veterinary Trauma Center by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2016. Dr. Bacek has been an invited speaker at numerous national/international and regional conferences, including the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) Forum, the International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Symposium (IVECCS), the South Carolina Association for Veterinarians (SCAV) conference, and numerous local continuing education events. Dr. Bacek is a member of the Association of Veterinary Hematology and Transfusion Medicine (AVHTM) and actively engaged in a number of intramural and multicenter clinical research projects. Her research has been supported by extramural grants from the ACVECC Foundation. She contributes to teaching third and fourth year veterinary students on the topics of triage, common small animal emergencies, transfusion medicine, fluid therapy, and clinical toxicology.
