DR Marico Bernstein graduated in Veterinary Medicine at UFRRJ, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1986. He specialized in Human acupuncture at IARJ ( Rio de Janeiro Acupuncture institute ) in 1987 and participated in many Traditional Chinese medicine schools in USA (for humans) in 1988 and 1989. Specialized in Veterinary Acupuncture at IVAS, ( International Veterinary Acupuncture Society ) in 1989. With his new Acupuncture skills, he started working in many human nephrology centers with renal patients using acupuncture, giving support to kidney failure and oncology patients, during 16 years, while developing techniques in veterinary nephrology and hemodialysis. Because of his interest in nephrology and hemodialysis and the lack of knowlodge in  nephrology at veterinary field on this matter in Brazil, Dr. Bernstein participated in many courses in nephrology in the human area through the years. His interests in clinical and diagnostic in nephrology , he studied and completed an internship in CT scan then founded the first CT Helicoidal scan veterinary service in Brazil, in 1996, at RENALVET SAO PAULO. Dr. Bernstein introduced and gave support for the first hemodialysis service in Europe, Portugal, at RESTELO ANIMAL HOSPITAL, in lisbon city 2009/2010. Dr. Berstein is responsible of creating and supporting the first Veterinary Hemodialysis Franchise, directing  seven Veterinary Hemodialysis centers in Brasil, one in Colombia, Medellin and pretty soon in Florida, USA. Dr Marcio Bernstein is actually ( 2024) and so far the only  veterinary specialist on veterinary nephrology and urology recognized by CFMV ( FEDERAL COUNCIL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE) in Brazil.
