Fellowship in Renal Medicine and Hemodialysis, University of California, Davis

The best day in my life was the day near the end of my residency when my boss suggested I do a fellowship with Dr. Cowgill in Renal Medicine and Hemodialysis. I spent 16 glorious months working with him learning all his tricks of the trade of dialysis. But more importantly, I learned how essential understanding kidney physiology and fluid balance was to managing dialysis patients. Upon my triumphant return to AMC to start a unit there, I joined the nephrology and internal medicine service. In 2009, I had the privilege of training my first renal/hemodialysis fellow, Dr. Serge Chalhoub. After he completed his program, Dr. Adam Eatroff took his place as the next renal/dialysis fellow. In 2014, I followed another of my lifetime dreams - becoming a professor in a university. When The Ohio State University had an opening, there was no question about my interest in the school that produced Dr. DiBartola and Dr. Chew and numerous other famous urinary people. In 2015, we started offering dialysis and extracorporeal therapies with a Prismaflex. In 2020, we added a Phoenix machine, and our first Dialysis Fellow, Dan Gordon, started his fellowship.

Fellow in Extracorporeal Therapies, OSU, 2020-21

Dr. Dan Gordon is a native of Orange County, California. His inspiration for changing the lives of both pets and people originates from his father, who also is a veterinarian in Southern California. Dr. Gordon’s professional interests include nephrology and immune-mediated diseases, along with the associated extracorporeal therapies (hemodialysis and plasmapheresis) used to treat these conditions. He is a graduate from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016, and completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Atlanta, Georgia in 2017. Dr. Gordon completed his residency in emergency/critical care at The Ohio State University in 2020. He is excited to join Dr. Cathy Langston as the first Renal/Hemodialysis/ECT Fellow at The Ohio State University, courtesy of Compassion-FIrst Pet Hospitals. In his spare time, he enjoys playing water polo and swimming, going on long hikes with his girlfriend, and cuddling with his cat “Miss Kitty”.
