Fellowship in Renal Medicine and Hemodialysis, University of California, Davis
The best day in my life was the day near the end of my residency when my boss suggested I do a fellowship with Dr. Cowgill in Renal Medicine and Hemodialysis. I spent 16 glorious months working with him learning all his tricks of the trade of dialysis. But more importantly, I learned how essential understanding kidney physiology and fluid balance was to managing dialysis patients. Upon my triumphant return to AMC to start a unit there, I joined the nephrology and internal medicine service. In 2009, I had the privilege of training my first renal/hemodialysis fellow, Dr. Serge Chalhoub. After he completed his program, Dr. Adam Eatroff took his place as the next renal/dialysis fellow. In 2014, I followed another of my lifetime dreams - becoming a professor in a university. When The Ohio State University had an opening, there was no question about my interest in the school that produced Dr. DiBartola and Dr. Chew and numerous other famous urinary people. In 2015, we started offering dialysis and extracorporeal therapies with a Prismaflex. In 2020, we added a Phoenix machine, and our first Dialysis Fellow, Dan Gordon, started his fellowship.
